Whether you're looking for a paved trail, a quiet wooded path, or a scenic overlook, these beginner-friendly parks and nature areas are perfect for slowing down and enjoying everything our area has to offer.

1. Grant's Trail

If you're looking for the easiest place to start, this is it.

Grant's Trail is mostly flat, paved, and stretches for miles through South County. You don't have to tackle the entire trail—just park at one of the many trailheads and walk as far as you'd like before turning around.

2. Cliff Cave County Park

Cliff Cave is one of South County's hidden gems.

The paved river overlook is an easy walk with beautiful views of the Mississippi River, while several wooded trails let you venture a little farther if you're feeling adventurous.

3. Bee Tree County Park

If scenic overlooks are your thing, Bee Tree belongs on your list.

The walk from the parking area is short and relatively easy, making it a great destination even if you aren't planning a long hike.

Its wooded trails are a little more adventurous than some of the others on this list, but they're still approachable for most beginners who want to spend a little more time in nature.

Sometimes simple is exactly what you're looking for.

The paved walking path loops around the park, making it perfect for an evening walk, a quick workout, or getting outside with the family before dinner.

If you're willing to drive just a little farther, Shaw Nature Reserve is absolutely worth the trip.

With miles of well-maintained trails, prairie landscapes, gardens, woodlands, and peaceful scenery, it's one of the most beautiful places to explore near St. Louis.
